A typical QualityTEC® Thermoelectric Module consists of an array of positively or negatively doped Bismuth Telluride semiconductor elements. Pairs of P/N elements are connected electrically in series and thermally in parallel. Metallized ceramic substrate material provides the base for the elements and the conductors that connect them. The module size varies from less than 0.5" by 0.5" to approximately 2" by 2". QualityTEC® Thermoelectric Modules can function singularly or in groups. Some applications use stacked multi-stage modules.
QualityTEC® Multi-Stage Thermoelectric Module When DC voltage is applied to the module, positive and negative charge carriers in the semiconductor material absorb heat energy on one substrate surface and release it on the opposite surface. The surface where heat energy is absorbed becomes cold. The opposite surface where heat energy is released becomes hot. The rate at which heat energy (in Watts or BTU's/hour) can be pumped by a QualityTEC® Thermoelectric Module is influenced by many factors, including: ambient temperature, physical and electrical characteristics of the thermoelectric module, and efficiency of the heat dissipation system. Typical thermoelectric cooling applications pump heat loads ranging from several milliwatts to hundreds of watts.
